The Center for Latin America and Caribbean Studies has lost a dear friend with the passing yesterday of Brazilian composer Sergio Roberto de Oliveira. Sergio came to Duke in the Spring of 2009 as our Mellon Visiting Professor. During his time here Sergio taught classes on Brazilian music and composed a series of special pieces for performance by the Ciompi Quartet.
CLACS Associate Director Natalie Hartman said, "I will always have wonderful memories of the beautiful music that came out of Sergio’s office each day."
His obituary can be found in the Jornal do Brazil: http://m.jb.com.br/cultura/noticias/2017/07/19/morre-o-compositor-e-produtor-sergio-roberto-de-oliveira/
