Latin American and Caribbean Languages

CLACS supports teaching and learning of Latin American and Caribbean languages through the following on-campus language offerings:

Brazilian Portuguese
Haitian Creole/Kreyol
K'iche' Maya

We also support indigenous language study through the summer Yucatec Maya Institute offered by our Consortium partner, the Institute for the Study of the Americas at UNC-Chapel Hill. K'iche' Maya and Haitian Creole are offered during the academic year at Duke through the Partnership for Less Commonly Taught Languages.

Graduate students may apply for summer or academic year FLAS Fellowships. Academic year fellowships support study of less commonly taught languages offered on-campus during the academic year, while summer fellowships support the study of less commonly taught languages in summer intensive programs offered primarily by other universities. For more information, contact CLACS Associate Director Natalie Hartman.
